This Week- CBC Labs: A review for nurses

A complete blood count is one of the most common laboratory procedures that is ordered by physicians. In a complete blood count, the basic components of the blood which are the red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, hemoglobin and hematocrit are examined for their values. An increase or decrease on each of these components are all indicative of a disease or disorder going on with the patient.

In this episode, nurses and nursing students will be provided a review on the basic blood components, its normal values, what abnormal values indicate and most importantly, the nursing responsibilities and considerations in a CBC lab order.
