Next up in this week’s news I look at a story where one nurse midwife talks in an article about her practice and patient care. We’ve been talking a lot about advanced practice nurses and nurse practitioners in our news items recently. I’ve been telling you that we all need to do more to support community knowledge of nurse practice abilities and the differences and similarities between what nurses do and what physicians do.
Articles Explain Nurse Midwife Practice
Kara Winkler is a certified nurse midwife from the community of Lee’s Summit near Kansas City. Kara sat down with the reporter to talk about her nurse midwife practice and about what nurse midwives do for their patients in the community. She does a good job of describing how there are differences from state to state that define what a nurse midwife can or cannot do. Kara also does a good job of describing what a nurse midwife is.
I urge you to read this article and check out what one nurse is doing to expand her community’s knowledge of nurses and nursing practice. This is a great example of what you or someone you know in advanced practice can do to encourage people to be more aware of how nurses can improve health care for their patients and everyone else in the community. I suggest you think of how you could share an article like this with people you know, or volunteer to be in an article like this featured in your local paper or your local news website.
