The Nursing Show is a proud member of the ProMed Podcast Network.

Nurses fired over social media faux pas, race and ER pain management, anti-psychotics overuse for dementia and we’ll take a look at some new synthetic drugs of abuse showing up in communities around the country with a special segment with Lisa Booze from the Maryland Poison Center. If that’s what you’re looking for, you found it. It’s the Nursing Show.

Welcome to the Show

Angry-Teenager-bullyingWell good day and welcome to this episode of the Nursing Show. I’m your host Jamie Davis. I’m looking forward to this week’s episode. We will look at one particular news item where two UK nurses were fired after inappropriate internet social media posts. Then, after the news items, I visit with Lisa Booze again as she chats about some new synthetic drugs being used and abused in communities around the country. We’ll have all of that and more later on in this episode of the Nursing Show.

Before that, though, I’d like you to follow up on all of the information in this episode. Take a moment to visit NursingShow.com and click the link for Shownotes at the top of the page. It will take you right to the most recent episode. Scroll down there and find all of the previous episodes. Follow-up on the links for the news items as well as all of the additional resource links that go with the tips of the week and interview segments. All of that is there for you at NursingShow.com. Make sure you take advantage of that information.

If you want to get back in touch with me, please drop me an email. You can send those e-mails in to NursingShow@Gmail.com. I love to hear from you and I make sure I respond back to every email that comes in. Send me links to news items you’d like me to cover, interview suggestions with you or somebody you know. Whatever the case may be, keep those e-mails coming. That’s it. I will have more contact information coming up later on in this episode but I guess we’ll go ahead and get on to the rest of the show as we get ready for this week’s news. Don’t forget to check out and support our sponsors and tell them you heard about them here on the Nursing Show.

Tip of the Week – New Synthetic Drugs of Abuse with Lisa Booze

New, legal drugs of abuse have appeared in recent years and quickly became popular:  synthetic marijuana, “bath salts” (drugs that are synthetic cathinones) and other synthetic drugs. Poison centers were soon being called about overdoses to these new drugs, and many of us didn’t know what to expect at first. We soon realized that most produce stimulant effects similar to amphetamines or cocaine. Poison centers are still receiving calls about these drugs but as laws are being passed to try to stop their distribution and abuse, other synthetic drugs are taking their place. Lisa Booze joins us again with another Tox Tidbit segment here on the Nursing Show as we look at some more of these designer drugs showing up in the marketplace of drug abusers and users.
