Tip of the Week – New Synthetic Drugs of Abuse with Lisa Booze

New, legal drugs of abuse have appeared in recent years and quickly became popular:  synthetic marijuana, “bath salts” (drugs that are synthetic cathinones) and other synthetic drugs. Poison centers were soon being called about overdoses to these new drugs, and many of us didn’t know what to expect at first. We soon realized that most produce stimulant effects similar to amphetamines or cocaine. Poison centers are still receiving calls about these drugs but as laws are being passed to try to stop their distribution and abuse, other synthetic drugs are taking their place. Lisa Booze joins us again with another Tox Tidbit segment here on the Nursing Show as we look at some more of these designer drugs showing up in the marketplace of drug abusers and users.
