Welcome to the Show

Good day and welcome to this week’s episode of the Nursing Show podcast for nurses, by nurses. I’m your host Jamie Davis and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for checking out the show this week. First up, in this week’s nursing news items, we’ll look at one report on NPR about how hospitals are failing to provide basic protections for keeping nurses from injury.

Then in this week’s special tip segment I chat with pediatrician Dr. Carolyn Clear and parent advocate Lindsay Mathis about the risks for RSV in children and how to differentiate that virus from illness it imitates like the common cold or the seasonal flu. We’ll have that and more later in this episode after the news.

If you want to get back in touch with me, please drop me an email. You can send those e-mails in to NursingShow@Gmail.com. I love to hear from you and I make sure I respond back to every email that comes in. Send me links to news items you’d like me to cover, interview suggestions with you or somebody you know.

Tip of the Week – Facts on Flu versus RSV for Kids

us-navy-nurse-babyFlu has been at the forefront of some news items this winter but there’s another virus you should know about, too. RSV is a common virus often mistaken for the common cold and it’s contracted by nearly 100% of babies by their second birthday. I got the chance to talk with pediatrician Dr. Carolyn Clear and RSV parent advocate Lindsay Mathis recently to discuss the differences between flu and RSV and to share a checklist to help alert families to the differences between these two viral illnesses. Check it out.
