Welcome to the Show
Good day and welcome to this week’s episode of the Nursing Show podcast for nurses, by nurses. I’m your host Jamie Davis and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for checking out the show this week. First up, in this week’s nursing news items, we’ll look at another drug being added to the school nurse’s toolkit to help them combat opioid overdoses in their schools. Should naloxone be part of your school nurse’s arsenal to keep students and school visitors safer?
Then in this week’s special interview segment, I have a great chat with two experts on medications, pregnancy and birth defects on the show. Dr. Siobhan Dolan and Dr. Jennifer Lind join me to talk about how pregnant women who have been previously prescribed antidepressants for a preexisting condition should have some important discussions with their health care providers. We’ll have that and more later in this episode after the news.
If you want to get back in touch with me, please drop me an email. You can send those e-mails in to NursingShow@Gmail.com. I love to hear from you and I make sure I respond back to every email that comes in. Send me links to news items you’d like me to cover, interview suggestions with you or somebody you know.

Tip of the Week – Antidepressants and Pregnancy
When women get pregnant or plan to get pregnant while taking regular medications, there are many questions that need to be answered about the safety of the mother and baby. This National Birth Defects Prevention Month and I have Dr. Siobhan Dolan, an OB/GYN and clinical geneticist plus Dr. Jennifer Lind a pharmacist with the U.S. Public Health Service. Together they help answer some questions about anti-depressant drugs and safety concerns for both the baby and the mother during pregnancy. Check that interview with them out.
