Welcome to the Show

Good day and welcome to this week’s episode of the Nursing Show podcast for nurses, by nurses. I’m your host Jamie Davis and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for checking out the show this week. First up, in this week’s nursing news items, we look at a great article on how more nurses are finding themselves in the executive suites of corporate America as they are seen as valuable resources for healthcare companies.

Then in this week’s tip segment interview I chat with health education simulation expert Lance Baily about the Gathering of Healthcare Simulation Technology Specialists and their non-profit organization that helps train simulation specialists to help us all train and educate ourselves better. We’ll have that and more later in this episode after the news.

If you want to get back in touch with me, please drop me an email. You can send those e-mails in to NursingShow@Gmail.com. I love to hear from you and I make sure I respond back to every email that comes in. Send me links to news items you’d like me to cover, interview suggestions with you or somebody you know.

Tip of the Week – Help for Patient Simulation Educators

patient simulation educationAccording to conservative estimates, more than 440,000 patients die each year from medical errors in the United States alone, and millions more suffer associated injuries.[1] Thankfully, emerging healthcare education simulation programs around the world are addressing this very issue through advances in modern technology. In these sim labs, new students and recertifying professionals enter realistic patient care environments that house high-fidelity, life-like patient manikins that speak, breathe, and react to medications.

In this episode I have Lance Baily on from SimGHOSTS the society for medical simulation experts and those seeking that expertise. The Gathering of Healthcare Simulation Technology Specialists is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose goal is to provide the technical and operational training support required by individuals and institutions around the United States that are improving patient care outcomes by educating healthcare professionals via advanced simulated learning environments. Check out this interview with Lance.
