Thanks for following the show and taking the time to share your thoughts here. I have never worked as an LPN but my experience as an RN and in the hospital setting has always been positive regarding what they bring to the patient care team. I don't think that any experienced LPN should necessarily start from "scratch" in a new RN or BSN graduate nurse position but institutions build a lot of different education into those programs including a lot that just has to do with their own practices and policies. It might be that they would have to take a lot of extra effort to accommodate a separate "residency" program for an LPN amidst a larger group of new RN/BSN grads.

Keep in touch and let me know if my thoughts about this make sense to you. I think I'll bring this up over at Insights in Nursing (http://InsightsinNursing.com).

Like some of the others I just started listening to your show. I love it, great info and the dialog between you and the guess is great.

I have a topic for you. After being a LPN for 6 years working on a very busy Med/Surg floor in a level one trauma center I found it hard to find a job as a RN with his BSN. I was hired with in my hospital in our Progressive Care Unit/Tele but I was looking to go outside the hospital and see what is out there, but never got a call after sending my resume out.

I know many other LPN's in the same boat, what do you think could be the issue at hand?

Once hired as a RN, should nurse who has worked as a LPN be placed in a "new grad residency" program like traditional new grad RN's.

Thanks..
