I got back late last night from the NTI/AACN conference in Washington, D.C. and first thing this morning started to edit my first impressions of this convention. I immediately figured out one thing:

This thing is so big, my first impressions were going to have to be given in two parts!

This is a view of the first thing you would have seen when you go in the front doors of the convention center. This organization did a great job of recognizing their best and brightest with a display of their Circle of Excellence awards winners for the year.

You’ll see in the video a pathway lined by large descriptions of the individuals and AACN chapters who exemplified the critical care nurse and raised their care to a higher level in the past year.

I was also struck by the focus on supporting the nurses who attend the conference with opportunities for taking care of the nurses themselves. There was an area for meditation, tai chi, and contemplation and relaxation.

Check out the video from AACN 2010 for more and watch for the third and final video from AACN in a few days.

Here’s the first of two or three video updates from the NTI/AACN conference in Washington, DC. Planning to update these every day with some footage from the exhibit hall and conference venue over the next few days.

If you are planning to come to the event, don’t forget to come to the Nursing Show meetup on Tuesday, May 18, at 7 PM ET.  We’ll be getting together at Fado’s Irish Pub located just a few blocks from the Convention Center at 808 7th St. NW.

I talked about the innovative hand washing video by two student nurses from Indiana on yesterday’s Nursing Show podcast.

While I linked to the YouTube video in the shownotes I thought that visitors to the Nursing Show site might like to check out the video here while visiting.

Enjoy!

This is a great example of the way to use social media tools like YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, and other sites to impart important health care lessons.

Another new segment for Nursing Show TV recorded from Blogworld Expo. This time around, Doctor Anonymous helped me out with the microphone and interviewing Bongi – a trauma surgeon from South Africa who has a very interesting blog on common injuries seen in his country.

One of my favorite new friends is Terri, a. k. a. “Mother Jones, RN,” a. k. a. the founder of the NurseRatchedsPlace.com blog.  One of the most well known nurse bloggers and famous for her provocative headlines, Terri is also an advocate for nurses, students, and good patients care.

On the side, she has one wicked dry sense of humor, too!

Check out this video segment from Blogworld Expo last week. She and Doctor Anonymous try to out-joke each other.  I’m not sure who wins – other than those of us watching.

I have to agree with Terri at the end of the video.  We want to see all of you at next year’s Blogworld.  Let’s change the way the world looks at their medical information and health care by instituting change on blog at a time. C’mon nurse bloggers, it’s up to you!
